I studied Asian theatre forms in my grad school. Loved these amazing and powerful styles! Some viewers of my films have noted the influence — seen in the stillness of postures and mask-like faces of the dolls. (Noh mask 18 c.)
Animals in fairy tales.
Our current film is the Grimm tale, The Two Travelers. In it many creatures help the hero (duck, stork, bee, horse) Here two crows offer guidance. Marie Louise Von Franz offers a wonderful analysis in “Shadow and Evil in Fairy Tales.”
